CNY lunch @ Grand Emperor Restaurant, Dorsett Subang

Chinese New Year has just passed and work life begin as usual. Though most of the Chinese colleagues are still on their leaves, the boss decided to treat us a lunch at Dorsett Subang Hotel, yum yum...

the grand lobby entrance of the hotel. we left office at 11.30 and reached the venue 5 minutes early, hence here we go, the photo session time.

the restaurant's entrance. how majestic, of course, it's Grand Emperor ma.
we all went in the last room on the right, can accommodate up to 20 pax inside it, opposite there is another room but a slightly smaller one which can fit one large table I guess. The restaurant was 3/4 full during our visit but I am not sure it was only during festival season or normal days also will be like that. they have many staff who are always there to your assistant. cleanliness maintained to the best, they will change your plate after 3-4 dishes served.

ok, let's talk about the food provided. I managed to capture few dishes only as some dish just lapse in few second after being served, hahaha

the first dish will always be the Yee Sang, right? I am not a good raw food eater, hence collects all keropoks and vege's. all the salmon, pass to a friend who loves it.

Dim sums being served one by one, able to taste most of them and I can say that all of them are fabulous and mouth watering.

Yam basket, I have already inserted few inside my happy tummy, then only realized that I haven't snapped a picture of it. hehe, seriously delicious.

Kuew Teow steamed with some kind of sos. in between they inserted some fish ball type of dim sums

the table full of tasty dishes.

stuffed chilies and eggplant.

bah chang is it, not sure the name, but its some kind of glutinous rice with egg yolk and nuts.

prawn dumplings

teppanyaki style of goreng goreng

ok ok..last dim sum of the day. wait still have dessert??

its not pisang goreng, its kind of kuih bahulu fried with crispy flour. so sweet and crispy. if I am not stuffed with so much food, I would have eaten half on the plate, seriously nice.

last but not least, red bean soup served to complete the lunch course.

Rumah Melaka Cafe - dining, non-timber exhibition and hall for renting

30th January 2017

Travelled to Melaka just to have short breakaways for school holiday. Looking for food in Melaka is easy especially with our technologies nowadays like waze, blogs made by food lovers all over😬 but it need some local people to really suggest the best of the best food. Hence I seek upon a friend in Melaka for his opinion on the best food for lunch. Of course we are only be staying for 1 night here, hence we want to try something different this time.

We stopped at Rumah Melaka cafe not because it was recommended by the friend, but because we can't last any longer, we were starving and to get to batu berendam, it was like about 35 minutes drive not include the traffic, and some more the outlook of the cafe really attracts me. It looks like traditional and historical Malaysian home.

Looks majestic with its pointy roof and raised entrance. The grass were neatly dressed and surrounded with bushy trees. Well kept as small museum 🀠

Lunch was served at RM10 per pax, there were about 14 dishes to choose and free flow of sirap limau. Food taste as catering but it's enough to fill the hungry stomach. "Later we hunt for home cook type of food" says Mr Husband. All right boss, after all, we have our whole day here at Melaka.

After filling the stomach tank with fuel enough to move around, we stood and walk around to see the uniqueness of the place. We note that the cafe house was connected to another 2 houses which are being used as exhibition hall for Malaysian famous non-timber and event hall. Yes, I told you it looks like museum from outside, yes it is a small museum for wood collectors. Quite knowledgeable place to be.

The walk away corridor from the cafe to the non-timber exhibition hall.

Some of the products made by non-timber woods are for sale  as well.

4 types of balak displayed. Junior thought it was seats and happily climbing them to sit πŸ˜‚

Some of the displayed item in the exhibition. Some made to be furnitures and some for decoration purposes.

Beautiful artwork. I realized how rich our heritage actually is, all of what we didn't learn in school. Junior didn't really learn much as he is still young to realize the beauty of art and craft as I do, what to expect from 5 year old kid. At that age, I was throwing stones over the river with friend at village.🀣

Mr Tuk Tuk - place for Thailand food lover

Mr Tuk Tuk🚍

Tuk Tuk means the famous 3 wheeler often found in countries like Thailand, Cambodia and India. In India it is called as 'auto'. The wheel can accommodate 2-3 person at the back and operates without aircond. It's similar like being passenger on a bike, but a slightly larger bike πŸ›΅

I have been to their shop few rounds and this time I guess I'll write a review on their food. They have 2 restaurant in klang valley, Setia City Mall and Sunway Pyramid. Their shop is typically not so large but just nice to serve as many as 30 customer at one time. Every corner of the shop is creatively used to accommodate more customers.

Interior inside the shop is very simple yet creatively in style, and ya it follows the theme of the shop - Tuk Tuk. That doesn't means we will be sitting in a Tuk Tuk style of seats ya, hahaha.

Ok, talk about food, for person like me who loves spicy food, Tuk Tuk really match the taste buds. They serve varieties in Tom yam, pataya, glass noodles, fish cakes, soups, green curry, chicken varieties and etc. Same goes to the drink - majority follows aka tyle style like Thai tea, Thai coffee, green tea, but not least to that choice, they have plenty more to choose.

Normally I'll spoil for choice when I'm at Tuk Tuk, and often I'll jut choose the set food which comes with drink of the day. Today I make a little change by ordering aka carte, whooho. Mouth watering, delicious food for my happy tummy. πŸ˜‹

Their menu look this πŸ‘†πŸΌ price of the food varies from RM7.80 to RM14.80. Quite reasonable

Mix vege served with generous amount of cashew nut, my favoriteπŸ˜„. The portion served was just nice for both my husband and myself as we both are not big eater.

Roasted chicken in honey. 🀀

Shrimp 🍀 pancake. Honestly I was expecting a pancake actually and surprised to receive a Craker type of dish. Anyhow, no complain as it was really tasty.

What do Malaysian never missed out in a meal? Sure an egg- type of dish is a must, right? The omelette was fried just nice without only burnt and uncooked portion. Again, though we could get omelette almost all the shops in Malaysia, Tuk Tuk omelette shouldn't be missed.

Lastly, after wallop everything, our mouth will crave for sweet stuff, of course, dessert is a must although you are full of crocodiles. Hence this fried ice cream just what I needed. Hooray... happy tummy, happy me πŸ˜‚

Child enter Primary 1 - what to prepare and expect

When my son starts his grade one, I thought it won't make any huge difference as he was with the same school for pre-primary and upgrading a level will be more or less same. But I was wrong. Going grade one means bigger challenges, for  both parents and children's.

So there are few things I need prepare for our children and some mental preparation for ourself.

Firstly, we must bear in mind that our children is still small. 5 years old is still tender and mostly a playing age, and for them to monitor their stuff is a big no-no. To ease the monitoring, thought of labeling his stuff would help and yes it did.

Basically he needs to bring few text, activity books, files  and note books. Apart from it, full stationery and color pencil set. The large one is meant for files and books and the small ones are for all loose stationeries. Furthermore, the books looks more presentable compare to handwritten as mommy has a bad handwriting πŸ˜›

I noticed that choosing books according to timetable is also an issue as my everyday my husband or myself has to help in picking the correct book for the next day. Later I print out the label with different color for different subject, and thank got later it ease him to fetch the books himself. More independent but of course, I will do the final checking not to miss the important books or papers.

During his pre-primary stage, there were little homeworks or next to nil parents interest needed, but for stage 1 is quite different. During the 2nd week of schooling, teachers have started to distribute courseworks. It is more or less like teen's assignment. 5 years old doing assignment? Obviously it's the parents duty to make sure they did, hence the coaching, guiding and planning all take into place. These assignment carry 30% marks and exam will carry 70%.

English coursework is about butterflies πŸ¦‹need to make one using paper and wood spoon and elobrate the facts about them. Geography coursework is about four seasons ~ max 10 pages of scrapbook. Science coursework is about animals living in sea, Antarctica, tropical area, and savannah. Need to choose any of their habitats, draw and elobrate on facts about them. Bahasa melayu coursework is about local fruits. Finally math coursework is about some calculations.

His school practice coupon type of currency to buy lunch, hence I have to give daily RM8 in school currency. Just in case if I forgot to insert the money which I always worried off, I just keep a small packet of money as a emergency kit.

Later I'll write about the assignments that we have made together. πŸ˜‰

Bayau Lagoon Melaka @ 27/01/2017

I booked the room trough their website as the price is same compare to agoda and other travel bookers. I have mentioned the booking is for 2 adults and 1 kid. The package is for room and team park entrance.

The room we were given was clean with some minor  problems such as shower water quite slow, one of the cards not accessible to the room, and the walls are not sound proof. Had difficulty to sleep at night because of the noise.

Check in was quite easy as they have 7 counters and need to take number and wait to be served. We arrived around 2 pm and asked to wait 20 minutes as the room is being cleaned. 20 minutes is just nice for us to sip a nice tea at the beside restaurant. They gave 2 access card, 2 teampark tickets, when I mentioned to the counter guy that I need entrance and breakfast for my 5 year old son also, he say we might not need to pay as there is no specific age to measure the requirement, instead they only measure by the height of the kid.

Check in done, what's next? We headed to the team park. Not knowing for the shocks awaiting there;

We were asked to pay additional for our son RM16 for entrance to the team park and that ticket only can be used once meanwhile the 2 adults tickets can be used twice. Look how stupid is that! The place is meant for kids and adults were given complementary tickets while children need to pay extra. Ok, maybe that was the greatest marketing plan the management can think of!
What is more annoying part of the team park is beach towel is not provided and guest are not allowed to bring hotel towel. So, we need to bring our own towel? Why it was not mentioned during booking?
We need to rent the towel for RM5 with deposit RM5, means to get one towel we need to pay RM10 and when return, RM5 will be refunded. They simply make themselves as public park and called it hotel standard!

The theme park was big and quite crowded as it is open for non hotel guest also. At first I was overwhelmed with the fun park where they have number car and hot wheels but you only can enter the park with band in hand and how to play with wet clothes? No idea! I am shivering there, we just headed back to our room.

Morning breakfast was the worst experience where counter girl asked me to buy coupon for my son costing RM18
What's the point to buy the package through their website where I have clearly mentioned 2 adults and 1 kid and they choose to ignore the kid so that they can charge as they like. I was not in the mood to fight, hence just pay and went in. What was provided? Just nasi lemak, plain mee soup, breads and puddings with hot coffee and tea. Totally disappointed.

Nothing much for us, just pack up and chow. Bye Bayau!
