Thaipusam is around the corner, it's time to go and see Lord Murugan at batu Caves. Usually 3-4 days prior to the festival will be super peak and super pack and roads will be closed around batu Caves starting eve of the festival due to chariot possession and kavadies.
Hence to avoid the crowd, we went earlier. The crowd is mediocre, still manageable. It was public holiday, hence there were lot of tourists as well.
We start our day early, reached at Caves at 9am, my son and myself had planned to carry the milk pot. Actually it was just me, and the day before when I was preparing the pot and milk, he curiously ask about what I am going to do with those pots. When I told him that I wanted to carry the milk pot and climb the cave stairs, he said he wanted to follow me to carry. I tried to blush off him saying it will be heavy and tiring, but he insisted.
The father gave him the smallest pot available at home, in the idea of if he happens to gave up in the middle, I can proceed to carry both. π€
But to our surprise, the little boy managed to carry his milk pot all the way up without a single complain. It's quite an achievement for a 5 year old kid π
The whole praying session completed at about 10.30am and junior still haven't tired, so we went to the little petting zoo available just beside the water fall. The entrance ticket was very cheap, RM7 for adults and RM3 for kids. A theme park style of wrist band will be given. Animals to note are plenty of peacocks, roosters, rabbits, parrots and ect. They even have separate place for reptiles where they display many types of snakes, cameleons, giant lizards, turtles, and large fishes. There are also few ponds full of koi fishes.
Visitors are allowed to feed all the animals, their food is sold at RM2 for small packet and RM5 for large. The same food also can fed fishes.
Apart for the mini petting zoo, there were also a small cave villa surrounded by many artistic idols crafted by specialist.
The image of the idols carries history of mankind and the truth behind human lifestyle. Mainly written in Tamil language, so people like me need to stay the whole day if were asked to read one by oneπ
The main plus point of this petting zoo is it is very cheap and very well managed. I noticed that the bridges and walk away were kept very clean all the time.
The koi fishes living indoor. There are a lot larger one living at outdoor lake.
The fishes were really hungry and I am sure they are very glad we chooses to visit them, hehe π
Tips
- Bring hat π© the place is super duper hot
- Always keep drinks and keep hydrated
- Please wear decent, inappropriate clothed people will not allowed to climb the stairs. This is common practice in all the temples in India.
- Bring hand sanitizer
- Don't carry any food or drinks in plastic bags while climbing the stairs as they will be many monkeys waiting to snatch the food out of your hand and they will do it in lightning speed. If you need to bring food supplies, keep it in handbag or backpack.
- Always keep an eye on your kid as many animals are left open, for safety reason.
That's all for this year Thaipusam. ππ½
