Homemade Anchovies Sambal

Sambal Ikan Bilis
Serves 2-3 pax

Ingredients;

 
  • Handful anchovies ( cleaned and gently pounded)
  • 3 medium onions
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • Small piece of ginger 
  • 1 medium potato
  • Teaspoon of mustard seed
  • Teaspoon of garlic ginger paste
  • 3 tablespoons of Chili paste
  • 3 tablespoons of tamarind water
  • Coconut or olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Brown sugar (optional)
Cooking Method;

1. Pour oil into a cooking pan, add mustard seed and onion to it, stir until gentle brown
 

2. Add anchovies, garlic, ginger, potato and chili paste.
Stir it well, add garlic ginger paste 
 
 

3. Pour 1 cup of water, add salt and let it shimmer for 5 minutes 


 

4. When the texture is thickened, add tamarind water and brown sugar if want. Stir a while and the Sambal is ready to serve. Best eaten with fragrant rice, fried mee hoon or thosai.
